Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad or Malayan Railway provides comfortable and economical rail services from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth, Alor Setar and Arau. From Butterworth you may take the ferry to Penang Island and another ferry directly to Langkawi Island from Pengkalan Weld on Penang Island.Alternatively you may by land, taxi or bus to Kuala Kedah orKuala Perlis for the ferry trip to Langkawi Island.

You may also opt to travel on by rail to Alor Star or Arau. From Alor Star the nearest ferry terminal to Langkawi Island is at Kuala Kedah and from Arau the nearest ferry terminal is Kuala Perlis.


SELF-DRIVEN BY ROAD
Those traveling by road to Langkawi has the choices of alighting the ferry from 3 points, either from Pengkalan Weld, Penang Island, Kuala Kedah in Kedah or Kuala Perlis in Perlis.
